Created on the southern side of Lake Myvatn in the mid-northern region of Iceland. The night was peacefully calm, still water, crisp stars, and mild aurora activity. The rocks sticking out of the water are created by ancient lava formations, like everything else in Iceland it seems. 4 cameras with fisheye lenses to get the entire sky and a 360 degree panorama on Earth. Each camera was shooting 25 second exposures nonstop with the intention of making a 360 degree time-lapse. This shot is a blend of 101 shots from each camera. 101 x 25 seconds, makes for 42 minutes. This night was one of the quietest nights of aurora activity that I shot over the course of a 5 week trip to Iceland. Which allowed me to stack the images together nicely without the aurora washing out the sky in the photo. While out scouting during the day I was looking for interesting rock formations in the water, that didn't block out the sky and allowed me to see lots of reflections as well. I finally settled on this spot. Very calm and peaceful night.
